ULM had three first-time attendees at the Superdome in New Orleans on Monday, as Tre' Hunter, Ajalen Holley, and new head football coach Matt Viator all drove down to New Orleans to answer questions from Sun Belt Media.

Going into the event, the Sun Belt Coaches poll tabbed the Warhawks to finish last in the conference. Coach Viator thinks this is fair, saying: "That's where I would have voted if it was another team. Coaches just go off last season's results. We don't know each other's changes in players or personnel, so you can never take these polls too seriously."

Coach Viator was asked how his program would improve, and he said that having seniors who bought into the system of a winning mentality helped tremendously. When the seniors buy in, the younger guys follow quicker.

New Texas State Head Coach Everett Withers also had a good explanation for how to build a program. "Going into the first season, you really just have to build a winning mentality in the locker room. You add scheme as you go, but if the players have a losing mentality, the best scheme won't help."

It seems the Warhawk players have bought into the winning mentality, with both Tre' Hunter and Ajalen Holley having high goals for the upcoming season. Both believe the team can have a winning record and get to a bowl game. That's the first step after having a down year like last year--believing as a team that winning is possible. Having two leaders and seniors like Hunter and Holley with high goals will be infectious to the younger members of the team.
